Frequently Asked Questions.....

What is a Wearable Computer?
A wearable computer is just that, a computer that can be worn, either on the body, or carried to achieve the functions of computers while on the go. Wearable Computers allow for access to data without the restrictions imposed by laptops or desktop computer systems. Click Here for a related link.

How much does a Wearable Computer Cost?
Most wearable computer systems are "homebuilt" meaning parts are salvaged, bought, or designed from scratch. Because of the "experimental" nature of wearable computing, it is hard to put a cost on systems. Rough estimates can range from as little as U.S. $2,000 to as much as U.S. $25,000 depending on what components, and how many "off the shelf" items are used.

Is That a Toaster on Your Head?
**This Question originated from a 72 year old man that we met at a Convention in 1996**

No, Actually that "toaster" is a Head Mounted Display or "HMD". The HMD is the data display for the computer. By using a monocular or single eyepiece display, the user can see a virtual computer screen superimposed over the normal field of view. Click Here for an Example. Research into reducing the cumbersome look of our current displays is underway. Soon diplays will be available commercially that look like a normal pair of glasses. Ultimately, the goal is to produce an LCD array that is small enough to be implanted into the eye itself or worn as contact lenses.

What are the Applications for Wearable Computers?
Because of the inherent portabilily of wearable computers they open up possibililties not imagined before. From Aerospace, Industrial, Manufacturing, Medical Services to Consumer Memory Agents, the applications for wearable computers is wide open. See the following papers for more information:
